ABOUT
"GREEN ARROW: SHOOTING STAR":
"Green Arrow:
Shooting Star" is an ongoing monthly serial adventure based on
the modern incarnation of the character in DC Comics.
What a long,
strange trip it's been.
I first got
the idea of pitching a Green Arrow show in late 2008, after I'd
been directing another Earth-P show for several months. I should
say now that I've never been that big into DC comics, with a few
notable exceptions. Ollie was one of those exceptions for several
years, starting with Mike Grell's Longbow Hunters limited series.
To be honest, the miniseries itself didn't grab me so much, but
the ongoing series -- Green Arrow volume 2, I guess -- had a maturity
and independence and, dare I say it, a hardboiled feel to it that
I, a big fan of crime fiction, really enjoyed.
At this point,
I have probably caused flop sweat in some comic fans who aren't
hoping for a Green Arrow show modeled after Mickey Spillane novels.
Fear not. Each of us who write Earth-P shows pick and choose what
we take from the various sources available to us, I'm sure; for
me, it's the street level sensibilities and real people personalities
from the Grell comics, the generous spirit and champion of the downtrodden
of the Green Arrow/Green Lantern quest for America, the wry wit
of the JLU incarnation, and of course, any number of influences
that have nothing specifically to do with Green Arrow. I hope you'll
enjoy the resulting stew.
It's been two
years of planning, plotting, searching for the right time that the
show could actually happen, hoping for a director to appear and
being surprised when one did and from where she did appear, and
of course, keeping my big mouth shut over the last several months
about what we were up to. And now, this is our show. I write it,
my wife directs it, and as things worked out, one of my best friends
wound up the voice of Ollie, and truly, the cast is also composed
of friends, some of 20 years and some new. We're a small, scrappy
bunch, but we plan to bring you something a little different and
give you a smile once a month. Thanks for checking us out.
