Tell me about "Pendant Backstage"!

ABOUT "PENDANT BACKSTAGE":

"Pendant Backstage " is a monthly review show of Pendant's podcasts, also featuring Calls from the Public!

What do you get when you take 200 hours of audio drama, a director, an actor, a fan and a high schooler and let them record their opinions? You get Pendant Backstage.

M Sieiro Garcia
Co-Host

---

Generally speaking, I'm the kind of person that can walk out of a movie and can instantly tell you three things I liked about it, and three things I didn't. At the risk of sounding arrogant, I've been told several times that I'd be great as a critic. So when there was discussion of a new Pendant critique show I naturally jumped at the chance to get on board. Realizing the great difficulty it'd be to break into that kind of industry, I felt doing the show would be a great way to express that aspect of me. I could satisfy my "that sucked, now here's six reasons why" need without having to spend years proving that I could.

As for the show itself I think we have a nice balance in the co-hosts. Due to our varying ages and personalities I think we bring great different points of view to the table. Despite that, we still manage to have enough cohesion to bring those opinions together and put out something truly unique. And while there may be other podcasts of its type, "Pendant: Backstage" strikes a nice middle ground between having enough subject matter to keep it from seeming recycled and not too much as to seem unfocused.

I also like how the show gives back to Pendant. Not only does it give a forum for people to express what they liked/disliked about a show, but it gives directors/writers/artists feedback on what we think's working and what's not. After all, who better to tell you what your audience is thinking than the audience itself?

Don your capes and cowls as Pendant: Backstage tackles "Batman: The Ace of Detectives" and "Seminar". Revel as they discuss the Dark Knight's nightly exploits, and listen at the extensive run-down of Batman's villains (guess who their favorite is)! Then they travel to the dark, post apocalyptic futuristic class room of Seminar and attempt to keep your minds from being blown at the variety and depth of episodes. And over on Calls we're joined by Marrcus Beattie and Pete Milan, and grill them about their shows like so much cheese. And Panda walks us through the process of getting a Seminar script approved. Will Pete Milan acknowledge Mackenzie's man crush? Does Marrcus really mind being Kat's whipping boy? And just what the hell IS the Mouse's power?

Episode Five

(February 8, 2009)

It's the episode everyone's been waiting for (well maybe just us), it's the "2008 Best of Pendant" show. The crew share their favorite moments of 2008. Join them as they look to the future... by reveling in the past. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll lose 20 pounds! Also including a complete rundown of the Pendy categories. How do the winners fare against PBS' criticism? If they can get past the "Sexiest Voice" categories, you might find out.
What will be the crew's best moments of 2008? What Pendy category does Mackenzie refuse to discuss? And how has being a Pendy winner changed M?

Episode Six

(March 8, 2009)
(1hr 29mins 18secs)
This month we bring you something old and something new (we couldn't find anything blue to borrow). The crew zips up their black latex suits and globe trots with Catwoman: Queen of Thieves. Then the group practices their Old English accents as they discuss The Pendant Shakespeare. Old Willie would be proud! Over on Calls we crack some whips (because everything goes back to the whip) in our talks about Catwoman. We discuss possible locations we'd like to see Selina visit and the loveable Zee, and we strap on our powder wigs in our discussion with Shakespeare. Latex outfits, whips AND soliloquies? You're making us work for our bread this month!

Episode Seven

(April 12, 2009)
(1hr 50mins 21secs)
This month we dress with our underwear OUTSIDE our pants! No it's not some weird fetish, we're talking about Big Blue himself, Superman. You might have heard his show hit a big milestone. We're joined by a special guest (you'll just have to listen to find out who) to discuss "Superman: The Last Son of Kypton", but for one PBSer it's their last flight, but they won't leave without a fight as we bust some skulls as we tackle the season 2 finale of "The Kingery". And if you attended Calls from the Public you got your free Superman underoos! We had plenty to give out. Again, Pendant: Backstage is not responsible if they're ill-fitting. One size fits most. Violence! Sad goodbyes! And free underoos! All this and more! And more exclamation points than you can shake a stick at!

Episode Nine

(June 7, 2009)
(1hour 02mins 42secs)
We go back to the beginnings of Pendant to review the End. Trust us, it makes sense if you listen, because this month we take our martinis shaken, not stirred, as we review James Bond: To the End. Then we head over to AeroQuest Dynamics and spend some time with our favorite flyboys (and girls) as we review Umket Industries Presents: The Dixie Stenberg and Brassy Battalion Adventure Theater! So brace yourself for fast cars, high-flying women and... underage drinking? They're going to shut us down for sure.

Episode Ten

(July 12, 2009)
(1hour 25mins 52secs)
Once again proving that it always goes back to the whip, this month we review "Indiana Jones and the Well of Life". We also take a remedial class as we look at the creepy, futuristic world of "Seminar" and someone doesn't pass the class (we'll give you a hint: their name has an "I" in it). So grab your textbooks and fedoras, and don't be late for class! The Instructor frowns on that. Eternal youth for all our homies!

Episode Eleven

(August 9, 2009)
(1hour 34mins 04secs)
This month we boldly go... with the starship Defiant as we review the show of the same name. They even let us fire the torpedoes! The guys attempt to place the show's 14 year history into something resembling a timeline, and speaking of storied history, we also take a second review of Pendant Shakespeare. Over on Calls we have a directorpolooza with ALL three past and present directors of "Star Trek: Defiant". Listen in awe as they discuss their respective runs! Quantum torpedoes, some "thees" and "thous" for good measure, and you've got the makings of a beautiful show (not to mention a long one). All this at Warp Factor 6.7! Engage!

In honor of Pendant: Backstage's first anniversary, we go back to our roots and discuss a crossover! We attempt to stay in our own reality we review Ex-Tempus, and on Calls, we pick the brains of the Bridgeses (Bridgii?) and Bruce Busby and get a dose of life on the other side of a crossover. And our special guest reveals themselves, but it's not who you'd expect... what? You were expecting a Zod joke? KNEEL!

Episode Fifteen

(December 6, 2009)
(1hour 23mins 26secs)
This month we slip on our one piece swimwear and review "Wonder Woman: Champion of Themyscira." And because we're suckers for those cool barrel rolls and loop-de-loops, we visit our friends in the Brassy Battalion for a look at "Umket Industries Presents: The Dixie Stenberg and Brassy Battalion Adventure Theater." And over on Calls we're joined by the writers of both Wonder Woman and Dixie. Three writers for the price of one Call? And the new voice of Diana, Kristen Bays? Madness! High flying aerial stunts, actors having contracts with the Devil, and... PBS has an iTunes review?
