ABOUT "SUPERMAN: THE LAST SON OF
KRYPTON":
"Superman: The Last Son of Krypton" is an ongoing monthly
serial adventure based on the modern incarnation of the character
in DC Comics.
---
My
love of Superman began in 1978, when as a 6-year-old I saw
"Superman: The Movie" on the big screen. I left the film, as the
posters and trailers promised, believing a man can fly.
After the movie, our group of family and friends went to a
fast-food hamburger joint known more for its outdoor playground
than its food. It was atop the highest point of that playground
that I decided to find out if I, too, had the ability to fly.
At first, I used the fireman's pole attached to the playground to
descend from that high perch, though I would let go midway down and
drop to the sand below. After a few tries, each time letting go of
the pole a little higher, I decided I was ready to fly.
My headfirst dive off the platform left me with a broken wrist and
the disappointing knowledge that I was subject to gravity and pain.
Though my dreams of being Superman were shattered at a young age,
my love for the character has endured.
I never imagined that one day I'd have the opportunity to be part
of a Superman production. I am beyond honored to be directing "The
Last Son of Krypton." It's superbly written and features a group of
voice actors whose performances repeatedly leave me shaking my head
in awe. I've been very proud of the shows we've been able to create
together, and I look forward to many, many more.
Jared Page
Director (issues 57 - present), "Superman: the Last Son of
Krypton"
---
Unlike Tom, I didn't really get a chance to sit down and write
an introduction for myself for the Superman Last Son of Krypton
page when I started. I was just dumped head first into Vindicatum,
and was desperately trying to keep my head above water for the
first few episodes. Tom was, of course, an excellent teacher, and
since then, I've found myself able to take the lessons he taught me
and move in new and interesting directions.
I initially signed up to the director's class sort of as a lark. I
wanted to see if I could hack it. At the time, several directorial
roles were opening up, and I figured that I would be offered
something like Seminar. I remember posting a note to my LJ that I
hoped that I would be sufficiently skilled enough to even be
considered for the Superman show, considering the high quality of
episodes that preceded me.
Obviously, I was offered and accepted the directorial reins of
Superman, and in the year since that time, I have really expanded
my skills as a director. This is no doubt due to the fine actors
involved in all the shows that I've had the pleasure to direct, as
well as the help from Jeffrey, whose advice on how to improve any
given scene was always useful and appreciated.
It's been a real pleasure directing this show, and you shall no
doubt see more of me in an acting capacity in Pendant. It seems
likely I'll be called upon to direct again, and hopefully, I will
have as much fun in that case as I did here.
Until then,
Good night, and good luck.
Bill Fisher
Director (issues 44 - 56), "Superman: The Last Son of
Krypton"
---
When
Jeffrey asked me to take over the reigns on Last Son of Krypton, I
was truly honored. In my mind, I had seen LSOK as our flagship
show; the longest running (besides Defiant, which has roots far
back through the ages, outside of audio drama) and Jeffrey's
"baby". To be given this opportunity was something I could not pass
up. It was like being given the keys to the Enterprise. "Let's see
what's out there" I thought!
When
I first discovered Pendant I was saddened that I had missed initial
casting calls for the Last Son Of Krypton series, as I was a huge
Superman fan. Being a part of it now, not just as a director, but
also as Perry White, I am enjoying it to the hilt!
I am
pleased to be working with these actors whom I've listened to over
the course of the series and hope to bring my own special touch to
the show, while still maintaining the magic that Jeffrey had
developed over the years. Handing over the reins was not an easy
choice for Jeffrey, but I thank him for his confidence in my
directing and mixing abilities, and for giving me the chance to
carry the show on into the future. I hope that he, and everyone who
listens to the show, will find us soaring above expectations every
month... just like The Last Son Of Krypton!
Tom Stitzer
Director (issues 28 - 43), "Superman: The Last Son of
Krypton"
---
I've been a huge fan of Superman all my life, and in 2004
I finally got around to hearing the original Superman radio dramas
from the 1940s. They were a lot of fun, and I'd just started
getting into audio mixing with "Star Trek: Defiant".
Knowing that it was possible and being a bigger Superman
fan than anything else, I decided to have a go at it myself. Around
October of 2004 I wrote what would become the first issue of
"Superman: The Last Son of Krypton" and set about trying to cast
all the roles.
At this time Pendant was still incredibly new and had
virtually no members, save for the people who came over from the
original Star Trek: Defiant email list. I posted casting calls on
some voice acting message boards but the response wasn't what I was
hoping for.
So I called on friends and family and virtually everyone
that I knew, just to get it done. Thankfully I have nice friends
and family who were willing to help me out, and although the mixing
was a bit rough, I finally got the first episode
completed.
I then sent it to Steve Younis who runs SupermanHomepage.com, and he liked it and wanted to put
it on his site for all of our fellow Superman fans to enjoy, and
the rest is history. We've been turning out one episode every month
for two years now, and generally work 2 - 3 episodes in advance
(meaning when you're listening to issue 12, we're already working
on 14 and 15 in some capacity).
Thankfully most of the entire cast has stuck with us
through the whole project, although I did actually have to recast
Lana Lang. Twice. Maybe she's cursed?
I've added some original characters to the mix and also
have plans to bring in many more familiar faces from the Superman
mythos. The fan response to this project has been overwhelming,
which is what makes doing these worthwhile.
It was also a direct result of this project that Pendant
has grown as much as it has, both in size and scope. The group has
more members than I ever thought we'd get and now we've got tons of
new projects in development. So to everyone who has listened and
who continues to listen...
Thank you.

WHAT'S THIS I HEAR ABOUT A SUPERMAN OTR
PERFORMANCE?
|
Superman VS. The Atom Man (September 1,
2010) (58mins
48secs)
Jack Ward of the Sonic Society contacted Pendant in the
late spring of 2010 with an offer to participate in "Sonic
Summerstock Theater", a presentation where modern audio drama
groups were putting together shows based on original old time radio
(OTR) scripts.
Pendant
jumped at the chance, and the end result is "Superman vs. The Atom
Man", almost an hour of old time radio story and dialogue produced
with modern mixing techniques for a truly unique experience. Hear
the "Superman: The Last Son of Krypton" cast performing as their
1940's counterparts!
You can
listen to the original broadcast on the Sonic Society's
website, or you can download the show (and the exclusive commentary
track) at the links to the right.
